Neuroscience is the study of neurons, and neural circuits that compose the nervous system. This physiological system is responsible for memory and learning, behavior, perception as well as consciousness. This science has evolved as the technology in molecular biology, electrophysiology and computer science. Neuroscience research is intertwined with multiple other research areas such as developmental biology or cell biology. The aim of neuroscience, also called neurobiology, covers the study of the structure and development of the nervous system, its operation and abnormalities. Proteogenix offers proteins related to the neuron system as well as antibodies targeting those proteins. Notably our catalog contains biosimilar antibodies, whose drug have been developed in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease, such as Aducanumab biosimilar for example.

    Neurons

The nervous system is composed of specific cells, the neurons. Those cells communicate through electrochemical signals. From the Soma, the cell body, the cells develop dendrites composed of an extension, the axon, along which an electrical signal is delivered, the action potential. At the end of the axon, the synapse is the zone between two neurons where information is exchanged thanks to neurotransmitter molecules.

    Nervous system description

In vertebrates, the nervous system is studied in two parts. The central nervous system is composed of the brain and the spinal cord. The peripheral nervous system includes all other nerves and ganglia.

    Neuroplasticity

One specificity of the nervous system is its high plasticity. The synaptic connection will rearrange through life as new experiences are lived by the individual. This neuroplasticity has proven to be higher during childhood than adult life. This phenomenon is linked to memory and learning.

    Alzheimer's disease

Alzheimer's is a neurodegenerative disease. It progressively destroys neurons. Its cause is not yet totally understood today with many factors suspected to be involved such as genetic linked to Apolipprotein E or physiological conditions. Alzheimer's protein may include amyloid beta and tau protein that are targeted by drug antibodies. No treatment is currently available to treat the disease, although some drugs have been developed to decrease the symptoms.
